ELECTRIC PICNIC FESTIVAL 2012-2016

Over a five-year period, I designed and created art installations and pop-up performances for the Body & Soul area and Arts Trail of Electric Picnic Music & Arts Festival.

These artworks were created as a solo artist and as part of a collaborative team with either my student at the time or as part of a collective called ‘CRACKINREALITY’.

2012

‘Finding Ouroboros’
‘That’s How The Light Gets In’

Finding Ouroboros, 2012

Dimensions: 335cm x 245cmx 275cm

Created from recycled aluminium cans, plastic bottles, wire, wood, CDs and beads.

Exhibited in the Body & Soul area of Electric Picnic music and arts festival 2012.

This sculpture was designed, created and installed by the EVE Estuary Art Group which was lead by myself as creative facilitator. EVE Estuary is day service for adults with learning difficulties.

It was a mini universe where life was celebrated and death was recognised as part of the ever spinning cycle.

That’s How The Light Gets In, 2012

Dimensions: 121cm x 121cm x 161cm

Created from recycled wooden pallets, rope light, flood lights, perspex and timber.

Exhibited in the Body & Soul area of Electric Picnic music and arts festival 2012.

Inspired by the lyrics of ‘Anthem’ by Leonard Cohen

Ring the bells that still can ring

Forget your perfect offering

There is a crack, a crack in everything

That’s how the light gets in

– Leonard Cohen

2013

‘A Trip to the Moon’

‘One Leads to All’

A Trip to the Moon, 2013

Dimensions: 330cm x 254cm x 56cm

Created from recycled wooden pallets, MDF board, acrylic paint & varnish.

Designed, created and installed by the EVE Estuary Art Group and myself as creative facilitator.

After the success of the previous years entry into the Body and Soul area of Electric picnic, we decided to create another artwork for consideration. We were thrilled to once again be chosen to play a part in the festival and created a vintage inspired crescent moon that people could use sit on and take their photograph with.

One Leads to All, 2013

Dimensions: 304cm x 304cm x 304 cm

Created from metal, wood and rope-light.

Installed in the Body and Soul area of Electric Picnic

Inspired by sacred geometry and a study of platonic solids. The tetrahedron form, glowing lines and solid wooden base welcomed human interaction and was, for some, a safe space to sit and meet with friends.

2014

‘Fortuna’
‘Fortuna’

Fortuna, 2014

Dimensions: 213cm x 243cm x 335cm

Created from wood, acrylic paint, metal and a roller bearing.

I designed and created this piece as part of the ‘CRACKINREALITY’ collective.

โ€˜Fortunaโ€™ was a mystical and mesmerizing delight for festival-goers eyes. It consisted of a large wheel that was numbered one to twelve. Revellers were invited to spin the wheel to see what their future held, and this they done with great enthusiasm.

Flanking the central spectacle were two boards upon which the fortunes were inscribed. The wheel dealt you a number which you matched with the corresponding number and fortunes upon the boards.

2015

The Wolf Pack, 2015

Created from a low-poly paper template, cardboard, recycled plastic, foil and bike helmets.

This was a walk through pop-up performance which we exhibited throughout the festival at various times of the day and night.

I helped to design, create and perform this piece as part of the ‘CRACKINREALITY’ collective.

The Wolf Pack experience combined performance and visual art to create a memorial engagement for Electric Picnic festival revellers.

We roamed the fields and howled at the moon.

2016

‘Hybrid’
‘Festival Freak’ & ‘The Wolf Pack’

Hybrid, 2016

Dimensions: 457cm x 213cm

Created from recycled silver foil insulation, marine plywood and timber.

Exhibited as part of an arts trail around the main grounds of the festival.

The Wolf Pack & Festival Freak, 2016

Created from a low-poly paper template, recycled foil, plastic, cardboard and bike helmets.

The wolf pack returned for a second year at the festival and this time they brought their festival freak friend with them.

Created and performed by ‘CRACKINREALITY’.

‘Festival Freak’ was created by myself and was simple an adaptation of a previous costume that I had made – ‘Yetti / Freaky Deaky Death’
